The Walker Leadership Scholarship is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to high school seniors. Our mission is to empower the next generation of leaders by supporting their educational goals and helping them reach their full potential. Walker Leadership Scholarship is a Non-Profit 501c3.
The mission of the Walker Leadership Scholarship is to provide financial support to Atkinson County High School Seniors.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
The D.N.and Beatrice Walker Scholarship Fund was established in 1980 in honor of D.N. and Beatrice (Pat) Walker. The fund was established as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization. The purpose of the fund is to recognize, encourage and support young people that demonstrate leadership qualities and community involvement. The scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Atkinson County High School who maintain at least a B average and are accepted to any state accredited institute of higher education including technical or trade school. Awardees are selected annually by the governing body of the fund.
Bill Walker is a 1961 graduate of Atkinson County High School. He holds Bachelor's Degrees from The University of Georgia and The University of La Verne as well as a Master’s Degree from Troy University. He is a graduate of the US Navy Test Pilot School. Bill is a retired Naval carrier aviator. During his 28-year Naval career he held positions as a fighter squadron commanding officer, test pilot, and program manager of weapons development and acquisition programs. Following retirement from the Navy, he spent eight years as a program manager for government research programs at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory where he also served as a Program Management/System Engineering academic instructor in the graduate engineering program. Later he spent 15 years as a government contractor managing weapons engineering and development programs.
Graduated from Atkinson County High School in 1965. Attended Tift College in Forsyth , Ga through the first quarter of her junior year, after which , she transferred to Valdosta State College where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in history in 1969. She began working as a caseworker with the Atkinson County Department of Family and Children’s Services on July 1, 1969. After five years in that position, she became the County Director . After serving in that position for ten years, she resigned in order to pursue a career in financial services and obtained her insurance and securities licenses. In January 1989 she returned to her calling, that of Social Work, by joining the Berrien County Department of Family and Children’s Services as Supervisor of Protective Services for children and adults, foster care and adoptions.She retired from that agency September 1, 2003.
